• A new organisation to face new challenges

  In accordance with Act C of 2003 on electronic communications, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Hungary has appointed Annamária Szalai as President of the National Media and Electronic Communications Authority with an effective date of 10 August 2010. Under applicable legislation, Ms Szalai is to remain in office for a term of nine years. Concurrent with the appointment of its President, the National Media and Electronic Communications Authority is set to begin its operations as an autonomous administrative body which, governed by the Constitution and pertaining legislation in force, shall report to the Parliament on an annual basis.

• Cable modem subscriptions regarded as the main driving force of the landline broadband market

  According to the National Communications Authority (NHH), the number of broadband cable subscriptions continued to grow during June 2010, with the overall number of landline broadband subscriptions reaching 1.85 million by the end of the month.

• Number of mobile internet subscribers continued to grow in June, with data traffic showing moderate figures

  Upon reaching the 1 million mark in May and after 636,000 a year before, the number of mobile internet subscriptions stood at 1.37 million at the end of June, while the number of active customers - those having used this type of service within the past three months - grew from 786,000 in May to 798,000. 12 months earlier this figure was at 507,000, the National Communications Authority (NHH) reports.

• The number of cable modem subscriptions continues to increase in May

  In May 2010, primarily due to the growth in the number of broadband cable subscriptions, the number of fixed-location broadband internet subscriptions rose by 9,000 to 1.829 million, the National Communication Authority of Hungary (NHH) reports.

• Flash Report on Television, May 2010 – Nearly half of subscribers now watch digital

  In May 2010, the number of households with digital television subscriptions in Hungary’s fourteen largest broadcast networks rose to 1.240 million, giving an increase of 15,000, states the flash report released by the National Communications Authority of Hungary (NHH).
